Save Time by Filling Your Storage Unit the Smart Way

Blog

Self-storage units are a necessary part of life for many people unless they're seriously downsizing and getting rid of most of their possessions. They can be particularly useful when you're moving house, as it allows you to transport items in stages thanks to having an intermediate place to keep them. It also lets you unpack and sort the essentials in your new house first, before going back for everything else later.

The downside often comes when you need to find certain things quickly, which can be a time-consuming task when you have a lot of stuff. Follow the tips below, and you'll be able to get your hands on whatever you need without wasting time.

Choose the right unit

Not enough people put the right amount of thought into this, but it will save you a lot of stress further down the line if you do. Carefully consider how much space you'll need, and add a little bit extra. It's important to be able to fit all of your boxes in with enough room to find your way around, so a bigger unit is better than one that's too small.

Label boxes properly

Pack things into boxes that are for specific rooms or areas of your new house, or it will take far longer than it should to sort everything later. Once you've done this, write the relevant room in large, clear lettering on every side of each box so you can see it from all angles, whichever way around the boxes are stored.

Stack smart

You should use as much of the height of your storage unit as possible, but don't stack so high that you'll have trouble reaching your boxes. Not only does this make it difficult to grab the things you need, it also puts you at risk of injury when you're retrieving things.

Use logical arrangement

Instead of just putting boxes wherever they'll go, spend some time planning and carefully arranging them. Make the things you'll want first easier to reach by putting them at the top of stacks and at the front of any other boxes. You should also make sure you leave alleyways between boxes so you can walk around freely and reach everything.

Take notes

It never hurts to write down a few reminders on where certain things are and how you can find them quickly. If you feel like it, you could even draw a simple map of your boxes so you know exactly where to go as soon as you get to your unit.

How to Store Vintage Clothes

Hey! Welcome to my blog. I'm Victoria and I run an online vintage clothing store. It started out as a pretty small thing that I just did at weekends but as the business grew so did the amount of stock I was buying to sell. At first, I was just using my mom's garage to store boxes of things but soon my dad started to complain. Eventually, I decided to hire a storage unit. I asked my uncle who has his own self-storage unit for advice and he was able to make sure I got a great deal. I hope you enjoy my blog!
