Moving is stressful enough, but moving with a brand-new baby in tow can be downright daunting. If you are starting a new family and moving into a new home, you have a lot of hard work ahead of you, and the sooner you get started the better.
Organization is the key to a (relatively) stress-free move with a new baby, so advance planning will be more important than ever before. Start by marking the date of the move on your calendar, then work backwards from there. Think about what you need to do two months before the move, a month before the move a week before the move and every interval in between. The more organised your moving calendar and the more complete your moving checklist the easier the move will be.
Pack as much as you can ahead of time, but leave out all of your baby essentials. Start by packing your out-of-season clothing and accessories, marking each box as you go. Continue by packing seldom-used items and the things you do not expect to need until after the move. Put those boxes aside in a single place to make it easier for the movers (or your friends) to get to when moving day arrives. If your move is a long distance one, you will want to make sure you have plenty of formula, or a sufficient supply of breast milk, packed away the day before the move. You will also need an extra supply of baby wipes, diapers, snacks and other essentials. Pack an extra diaper bag or small suitcase with these baby essentials and keep it with you during the move to your new home. Moving house with a newborn is no easy task, but the right planning can make a world of difference.
When it comes to packing the large items— thing like the crib and playpen, you will need a way to protect them from damage during the transition to their new home. Old blankets are perfect for wrapping the edges of cribs and preventing chipping and splintering, so pick up a few extra in the weeks leading up to the move. If your crib or playpen packs flat, you can fold it up to make moving it easier. Otherwise you will need to make sure it is secured on the moving van (or your friend's pickup truck). Your stroller can come with you in the car, as can a supply of extra diapers and other essentials. Organising your boxes into baby supplies and non-baby items can also make the move easier, so take the time to mark your boxes carefully before moving day arrives.
It is also a good idea to research local doctors and pediatric services in your new location. If your move is a short one, you can probably use the same pediatrician you did before, but if you are moving across the state that will not be practical. Get recommendations from your new neighbours, ask other parents and do your own homework. You will have real peace of mind knowing that your pediatric needs will be met in your new location.
Moving house with a newborn is hard, and you will want to reward yourself when you arrive at your new home. Hiring a removals expert and enjoying a much-deserved night out is a great way to celebrate your new life together and give yourself a break.
Whether you are still pregnant or the proud mom or a brand-new baby, it is important to get your priorities right when moving to your new home. Taking the time to plan it all out, create a checklist and keep track of the things you need most will make moving with a baby easier and far less stressful.

Hey! Welcome to my blog. I'm Victoria and I run an online vintage clothing store. It started out as a pretty small thing that I just did at weekends but as the business grew so did the amount of stock I was buying to sell. At first, I was just using my mom's garage to store boxes of things but soon my dad started to complain. Eventually, I decided to hire a storage unit. I asked my uncle who has his own self-storage unit for advice and he was able to make sure I got a great deal. I hope you enjoy my blog!
