Can You Securely Put Large Appliances In Self Storage?

Blog

A category of items that would be difficult to juggle when embarking on a relocation would be large home appliances. The reason for this is big-ticket items such as your oven, washing machine, fridge and more are prone to becoming damaged when being moved about due to how bulky they are and the numerous moving parts they come with. Therefore, it is crucial to know what measures to take to secure these items, especially if you will be putting them into self storage before you are settled in your new residence. So what are some of the things that you should do to ensure that your large appliances are secure when putting them into self storage?

Thoroughly clean the large appliances

The first step to putting your large appliances in storage would be ensuring they are clean. If there is any debris or water in the machine, there is an increased likelihood of staining, corrosion and other damages that would hinder the operations of your large appliance. Pay particular attention when cleaning to eliminate any sticky residue that may be inside the large appliances, as this will prevent them from permanently staining the appliance. Secondly, ensure all water has been drained from hosepipes so that the appliance is not at risk of moisture damage. Leave the large appliances to air dry for as long as possible once they have been cleaned before you start packing them up.

Disconnect all cords and attachments

In theory, it may seem easier to simply pack your large appliances with their various connections in place so that you can reconnect them quickly once they are out of storage. However, leaving the attachments intact could pose the risk of damage as the different electrical ports should be covered and packed separately. Disconnect the hoses and cables so you can coil them individually and wrap them in tape. You should then place these connections in bubble wrap to prevent the risk of damage.

Seal the doors

Most large appliances have access doors. Whether it is a fridge or a dishwasher, you would have to ensure that the doors have been taped shut before the appliances go into storage. Taping the doors closed serves two primary functions. Firstly, it reduces the risk of contaminants making their way into your appliances once they are in self storage. Secondly, the taped-shut doors ensures that the seals and gaskets on the appliances are not damaged while the big-ticket items are not in use.

How to Store Vintage Clothes

Hey! Welcome to my blog. I'm Victoria and I run an online vintage clothing store. It started out as a pretty small thing that I just did at weekends but as the business grew so did the amount of stock I was buying to sell. At first, I was just using my mom's garage to store boxes of things but soon my dad started to complain. Eventually, I decided to hire a storage unit. I asked my uncle who has his own self-storage unit for advice and he was able to make sure I got a great deal. I hope you enjoy my blog!
