Moving Home? Storage Isn't Just Useful For Downsizing

Blog

If you were moving from a large property to a smaller one, there's a good chance you'd consider renting storage so you had somewhere to keep your excess possessions until you could work out what to do with them. It makes sense — you don't have to throw anything away immediately, and you can spend more time dealing with the essentials.

But storage can also be extremely useful when you're moving to a home the same size as your current one, or even a considerably bigger property. Here's why.

Stress reduction

It's well documented and widely known that moving is a massive source of stress. By using storage for some of your belongings, you can significantly reduce that stress by keeping anything out of the way that you don't need immediately.

Just looking at all the things you own can be enough to have you in tears when you're moving, but when you've put some of in storage, it doesn't seem so daunting.

Faster moving

When you have a lot of furniture and other possessions to move, it's going to take a considerable amount of time. Storage can really cut that down when it comes to actually going from one house to the next.

The trick is to spend time in the weeks leading up to your move sorting out the things you won't need for a little while. You can begin shifting these into storage so you can move in stages, and on the actual moving day, you'll have much less to deal with. That means you can be settled into your new home in record time.

Easier sorting

You'll probably want to get rid of some junk when you move. People often do this as they uncover various things they'd forgotten they even owned, so it makes little sense to keep them.

By using storage, you can move anything you're unsure about, leaving you more space and less clutter when dealing with the rest. You could also put anything you plan to sell or donate to charity into storage and deal with it at a later date.

Keeping rooms empty

Moving into your new home, you might want to remodel or paint some of the rooms. By leaving the items that will eventually go into these rooms in storage, you don't have to worry about working around awkward furniture or finding somewhere to put it out of the way while you finish the job.

How to Store Vintage Clothes

Hey! Welcome to my blog. I'm Victoria and I run an online vintage clothing store. It started out as a pretty small thing that I just did at weekends but as the business grew so did the amount of stock I was buying to sell. At first, I was just using my mom's garage to store boxes of things but soon my dad started to complain. Eventually, I decided to hire a storage unit. I asked my uncle who has his own self-storage unit for advice and he was able to make sure I got a great deal. I hope you enjoy my blog!
